School performance

Child abuse has a big impact on children and their school performance. They tend to score lower grades on assignments. Children become more stressed and fail to do whats necessary. School is there only escape from the abuse and neglect but, the thoughts still go though there heads, which makes them un-concentrated. the horrible things they go through will haunt them for the rest of there lives and will have a big impact on everything they do.

Childhood Abuse: The Lasting Effects on Families

Someone on the Relationships and Coping Community recently explained that she grew up in a family where the daughters were abused; and she was struggling with family dynamics that center on issues related to that abuse. Unfortunately, such struggles are common. So, in response to her, and to all who can relate, I offer these thoughts.
Surviving childhood abuse (physical, sexual, or emotional) does not end with childhood. Along with having to cope with personal struggles for years to come, surviving also means dealing with ongoing family dynamics related to the abuse. Sometimes strong ties are forged between siblings who supported or tried to protect each other. However, all too often there continue to be problems, such as issues of secrecy and betrayal.
These kinds of family dynamics can leave people feeling traumatized all over again. Siblings might ostracize a man who expresses anger toward a father who beat him. A mother might deny her daughter’s stories of being sexually abused by her father or grandfather; or she might blame the daughter for the abuse. Responses such as these invalidate a person’s experiences and create new struggles in adulthood..

 I was watching Tyler Perry on the Oprah Winfrey television show os n October 20, 2010, and he spoke with Oprah about a conversation that closely touches my soul. Tyler Perry is multi-talented, a forty-one year old black man who happens to be a producer, a director, a writer and an actor, with multi-television series and movies. Still even though he is rich and famous, Tyler Perry still bears scars on his soul from his horrific childhood. Tyler Perry was a victim of child abuse, both physically and verbally from the hands of his father, and also suffered acts of sexual molestation from a man and woman. Tyler's story initiated flashbacks of my past, because we share a somewhat similar story, except I'm not famous on the wide screen.
Tyler Perry used his inner survivor skills to cope as an abused child by being creative, turning into his inner happy child persona. Tyler Perry said males don't speak up about incidents of child and sexual abuse as often as females. There's too much shame in making a confession. Sexual and child abuse does occur in the male population, and with young male teenagers. Tyler Perry had to work on repairing the emotional damage inflicted on him as a child. Abuse can leave a big effect on any individual. It can lead to horrible flash backs and emotional stress. I believe when someone is abused as a child it sticks to them for the rest of there lives. Its not something that could be changed, they will always live with the abuse. The abuse that Tyler Perry recieved was neglect, physical, and sexual. He explains that it is hard to talk about because he is a male. Most of the abuse was from his parents. He faces a lot of emotional damage.

Over the last 10 years incidence of child abuse have increased dramatically. In New Mexico 86.5% were neglected, 13,9% were physically abused, and 3.6% were sexually abused. Laws in New Mexico over child abuse involve being guily of misdemeanor and will be sentenced to pursuant to § 31-19-1. the person will be imprisoned in the county jail for a definite term that is less than 1 year, be fined no more than $1,000, or both at the discretion of the judge.

Baby Brianna's Sad Story of Child Abuse

Baby Brianna is the story of one of the worst cases of child abuse in New Mexico history. She was 6 months old when she died by the hands of her own family. In fact, the photo of her above is a photo that was photoshopped to erase all the bruises and bite marks on her face. Authorities were unable to find any photos of Brianna alive, happy, or smiling. This is how the community wanted to remember her... as though she were asleep.

Baby Brianna was raped and beaten by her father and uncle throughout the 6 months of her short life. Even bite marks from her own mother's teeth were found on her little body. Brianna was beaten by these three, but she could have been saved. Other family members knew of the abuse, but never said a word. It goes to show that neglect can be just as bad as physical abuse.

in my opinon this story is very sad. Most abuse is when the child is older then a year. she was six months who does that to child that age. i believe the consiquences for these people should be even worse. its something that makes me feel very bad inside. its a disgrace.

Child neglect case against New Mexico couple returns to Chautauqua family court

Child welfare officials in New Mexico last year took four daughters away from a doctor after police charged him with subjecting the girls to cruel and bizarre punishments.

Police said the doctor made the girls live in a garage for weeks at a time, with only bread, water, peanut butter and sleeping bags. They also accused him of waking three of the girls in the middle of the night and driving them to a dangerous neighborhood, where they were left alone in a run-down trailer for two months.

The children have been staying in recent months with a foster family in the Chautauqua County community of Sherman, where the girls' adoptive aunt and uncle also live.

But now the doctor wants the girls back.

And a hard-fought legal battle over the girls has landed in Buffalo's federal court.

In addition to the criminal child abuse charges filed in New Mexico, Dr. Kenneth Yaw, an orthopedic surgeon originally from Pittsburgh, and his wife, Rita Starceski, are fighting a child neglect action filed against them by Chautauqua County Social Services lawyers. The surgeon's attorneys want the girls to be taken out of New York State and placed with two friends of Yaw's in Cincinnati, while Yaw seeks to have them eventually returned to him.

U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara on Friday refused a request from Yaw's attorneys to hear the case in federal court. Arcara sent the case back to Chautauqua County Family Court, where it has been debated for the past year.

"That is very good news," said Robin Starceski, aunt of the four girls who lives in Sherman and wants to adopt the girls. "For now, I know the girls are safe. That's all we've wanted, all along." continue on cite below..

in my opinion i can not see how a person can do this, especially a doctor. as a doctor arnt you suppose to take care of people not make them worse. the kind of neglect shown here is the worst i have read aout. its not right.

Boy, 5, in coma following disturbing abuse

We have disturbing new details about a child abuse case involving a five-year old boy who police say is brain-dead after his mother's boyfriend admitted to throwing him across a room and into a dresser.
Albuquerque police tell us they arrested Richard Gutierrez, 31, on Tuesday after he called 911 to say the boy had "fallen off of his bed and was barely breathing.”
When police arrived at the home in The Villa Esperanza Apartment Complex, 3901 Lafayette NE, officers found the boy lifeless.
When asked what happened, Gutierrez told police that he had been watching his infant son and Desiree Gutierrez's son, his girlfriend and the mother of both children, while she was at school.
Gutierrez told police that he had asked the the five-year-old to get his brother a diaper in order to change him.
He said the boy got a diaper, gave it to Gutierrez and went back to his room to play. Gutierrez said that, a few minutes later, he heard a crash from the room and went in to investigate.He told police he saw the boy lying face up on the floor staring at the ceiling, apparently unconscious.
Gutierrez told police he tried several times to awaken the boy but didn't get a response.
He then said he took the boy into the shower and attempted to revive him with cold water.
Gutierrez said that’s when he called 911.
Later, however, in a recorded interview with police, Gutierrez said he “snapped” when the boy urinated on himself. He admitted that he threw the boy off a bed with great force. They boy’s head hit a dresser and a part of the bed. Gutierrez then said he picked the boy up from his underarms and put him in a bathtub with cold water to revive him. The case of abuse is very sad in my opinion. There was much physical abuse towards the 5 year old. I believe there has to be another way to actually, "snap", he shouldn't have done those actions.

Personal Statement

Child abuse is the physical, emotional, or sexual mistreatment of a child. Physical and sexual abuse involve touching, hitting, and having unwanted sex. Emotional and neglective abuse is when an elder does not take care of the child as needed. I believe child abuse is wrong, every parent would be heart broken if there child was treated they way some are. I think child abuse is something awful; there should be more awareness for the all children. No child should be abused in anyway. Child abuse needs to stop!
